Who is this course for?

This course is for students who want to gain a better understanding of the world they live in and of the historical events that have shaped it. It is also useful for further studies in Humanities subjects.

What will I learn?

You will study:

• How different groups and events shape the history of individual countries, including Australia
• How individual people contribute to historical events
• How particular ideas shape the history of countries

You will develop skills in:

• How to write and discuss history
• How to research and document a historical study
• How to develop an historical argument
• How to analyse historical sources

Our current Year 11 course focuses on the history of Vietnam and includes:

• French colonisation
• The war with the United States
• Australia's role in the Vietnam War
• Social and protest movements during the Vietnam War

You will also have the opportunity to complete a self-directed independent historical study on a Modern History topic of your choice.

How will I be assessed?

You will demonstrate evidence of your learning through the following assessment types.

• Three tasks demonstrating historical skills - 75%
• One Individual historical study - 25%
